In the world of computers.Based only on my research, the week before our classes started.I found out that Networking is the practice of linking two or more computing devices together for the purpose of sharing data. Networks are built with a mix of computer hardware and computer software. After I have read it, it’s quite interesting for me. And I felt excited to know more about it with the help of our Professor Mr. Joseph Yamit.

In our first week of class, we tackled about what is client & server. And I have learned that client/server describes the relationship between two computer programs in which one program, the client, makes a sevice request from another program, and the server which fulfills the request. Although the client/server idea can be used by programs within a single computer, it is a more important idea in a network. In other word, in a network, the client/server model provides a convenient way to interconnect programs that are distributed efficiently across different locations, like computer transactions.

We also tackled about the differences between hubs, bridges, switches, and routers. That hubs is used to forward any data packets they receive over one port from one work, like e-mail, word processing document, etc. While switches join multiple computers together at a low-level network protocol layer with additional intelligence above that offered by hubs, which means that switches are smarter than hubs, because it can support multiple “conversations” and move much more traffic through the network than a hub, and also switches has a bigger capacity than hubs. Routers helps ensure that packets are traveling the most efficients paths to their destination. While bridges is needed by a switch for its features when providing MAN/WAN connectivity. It helps reduce congestion by keeping traffic unto network “backbone”.

I also learned that analog versus digital isn’t as simple as comparing one technology to another. That it depends on what product in some cases. Analog is the process of taking an audio or video signal (for ex. human voice) and translating it into electronic pulses. Digital, on the other hand, create sounds by working with digital representations of sound waves, in the form of binary numbers.

Also about the modem and routers. That router is a device which acts as an inteface between networks, which it is connected and can be more selective about the packets it passes on. While modem is a device that transmits and receives data over the plain old telephone systems analogue lines. We also discussed about Ethernet’s and other LAN technologies, like ATM or Asynchronous Transfer Mode, and etc.

I have learned so many things in our first week of discussions. And hoping that I will not forget any of those, because I easily forget things that I have already encountered about my subject concerns.
