Between Clients and Servers
Before, my understanding about the server is to provide connectivity to the computers that is connected to it which by the way is called as client. As what I’ve learned from our discussions in the class, I’ve learned what a server really is. It is the central provider of the clients and is capable of many services like the file sharing of computers in a network. The clients request for files in the server. On the other way around, the server will provide the files needed by the client. Another scenario for a client-server environment is the electronic mail. The Yahoo Mail stands as the server and the user is the client. The client sends an email to another client. The email being sent to the other client is being forwarded to the mail server which is the yahoo mail. The mail server will be the one to forward the mail to the other client. It also provides us the basic services of the SMTP and of the POP.
Network Media
Like any other electrical devices, networking also uses cables and wirings in order to interconnect to each other. There are three primary wirings used in networking; the UTP, COAXIAL and OPTICAL FIBER. As an IT student, I have observed that the UTP is the most commonly used media in the networks. However, the most sufficient media among them is the optical fiber. Why is it so? It is because it can carry thousands and millions of signal in a single cable. It is not prone to any kind of noise because it does not use those wirings just like the coaxial and utp. The path being passed by the signals in the form of light is through a glass-like tube inside the optical fiber. It is usually used for backbone devices in the network.
